Purine is a substance found in foods or produced naturally by our body. It may be broken down by our body and changed to uric acid, which may lead to gout.
If you or your loved ones have a gout condition, living with a purine-free diet or low purine diet is important, because foods that contain high levels of purine can cause gout attacks easily.
These recipes use foods that contain low purine. The following are low-purine foods and beverages:
- Eggs (no more than 3 to 4 per week).
- Nuts and peanut butter: limit if trying to lose weight.
- Low-fat and fat-free cheeses and ice cream.
- skim or 1% Milk (no more than 24 ounces per day).
- Cream-style soups made with low-fat milk.
- Vegetables not on the lists above
- Fruits and juices.
- Breads and cereals: white flour, low fiber, or refined grain types.
- Pasta and macaroni
- Coffee and tea
